What are cool things to do in UK in a One Week Trip?
Do not spend most of your time in London. If there is time to go to Northern Ireland visit the north or the west for the best scenery (unless Brexit has happened then it might not be safe any more).
Go to some of the national parks such as the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District. If you like the coast try Northumberland for peace and quiet. In Scotland head for the hills and lochs. In Wales visit Snowdonia.
There isn’t time to do everything, but you need to experience UK foods. The two compulsory dishes are the Sunday Roast - the best is beef; and fish, chips and mushy peas with salt and vinegar - best from a chip shop rather than a pub and usually better in the north than the south of the country.

UK is a great place to visit in a one week trip if you enjoy different types of scenery and culture. There are plenty of cool things to do in the UK, such as exploring London and its historic landmarks, going on a hike in the Scottish Highlands, or exploring Wales' stunning coastline.

Absolutely love your suggestions—especially the reminder not to spend the entire trip in London. While the capital has its charm, the true soul of the UK is often found in its countryside, small towns, and natural beauty.
I’d second the idea of exploring the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales—they’re breathtaking and perfect for hiking, photography, or just slowing down. If you're into dramatic coastal views and castles, Northumberland is a hidden gem that tourists often overlook. The beaches there are peaceful, and Bamburgh Castle is a must-see.
For those heading into Scotland, the Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye are surreal—especially if you catch some mist or low clouds over the lochs. And if you’re able to include Wales, a trek through Snowdonia National Park is both scenic and manageable within a short trip.
The food suggestions are spot on too—fish and chips with mushy peas is an experience in itself, especially if you can enjoy it on a breezy seaside promenade. And yes, a Sunday roast (with Yorkshire pudding!) is a cultural event, not just a meal.
Also, if time allows, consider a visit to Bath or Oxford/Cambridge for a mix of history, architecture, and charm—great for a 1-day stopover without the overwhelm of a big city.
In short, the UK is incredibly diverse for such a small country. With just a week, picking a region and exploring it deeply can often be more rewarding than trying to race through too many places. Less is more here.
Curious to know—has anyone tried a scenic train route like the Settle to Carlisle line or Fort William to Mallaig (Jacobite Steam Train)? Those offer some of the best views without needing to drive!
