Google Panda Myths

The most pervasive myth about Panda is that it is about duplicate content. John Mueller has clarified that duplicate content is independent of Panda. Google employees have stressed many times that Panda encourages unique content, but this goes deeper than avoiding duplication. What Panda is looking for is genuinely unique information that provides unique value to users. Mueller likewise told one blogger that removing technical duplicates was actually a very low priority and that they should instead “think about what makes your website different compared to the absolute top site of your niche.” The source of this confusion is likely from Singhal’s questionnaire, with the question “Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations?” This isn’t referring to technical duplication, but to the redundancy of content, where novel content is rewarded more than derivative content.
